History

In the early 60’s the Westside community of the city San Antonio received at there homes a free publication called the Westside Sun.  The Westside Sun was discontinued in the early 1980’s. A big void was left in the Westside and its citizens were left without a newspaper they could call their own.  In January of 2002 the Westside Sol was born with the intent of providing a publication to the citizens of the Westside of San Antonio and beyond.  With over 60% percent of its citizens of Hispanic origin, we wanted to support all minority owned businesses by providing affordable advertising opportunities in our city. We also want to provide all corporate and business owners the same opportunity. The Westside Sol has taken off and many businesses within the city have taken advantage of our rates and an opportunity to attract consumers from throughout the city of San Antonio. The Westside Sol area of influence starts in Downtown San Antonio and extends past S.W. Military Drive in the South to 1604 in the West and North Star Mall in the north and everything in between. In 2005 the Southside Sol was added to our family of Newspapers. Now all advertisers’ can take advantage of dual distribution by getting their announcements in both publications for the price of one.  The birth of the Westside Sol was engineered by Joe Aguilar, CEO  & Publisher.  Joe Aguilar is a 1979 graduate of Sidney Lanier High School.  He also attended both San Antonio College and North Texas State University with a degree in Radio Television and Film. Joe Aguilar was born and raised in the Westside of San Antonio and still resides in the community.  With over 30 years experience in the advertising and marketing fields, the Westside Sol staff has expanded its services to include Printing, Promotional Products and professional graphic design.  Please contact our offices for any questions at 210-639-0463.
